My Artist - January 2010

Summer loves to color, draw and paint. I picked up this board at Ikea for $15!! The kids love to "play school" and take turns being the teacher. On the other side is a chalk board so they can both use this at the same time - which is great. Summer loves to draw pictures of "Aunt Carol." So cute!

January 2010 - Huntington Beach!!

Happy New Year!! And what a perfect way to start out the year : A fun day at the beach! And this time I brought bathing suits! This is at Huntington State Beach, right off PCH and Magnolia and a place we frequent on a very regular basis.

The End of the Year - OC Style!!

I took my mom down to one of our favorite spots: Crystal Cove State Beach. She was in town, after dropping Carol off at the airport. The sun was shining and the water was gorgeous....so beautiful that the kids were too tempted to stay out. I didn't even bring swimsuits because it was in the mid 60's so I thought it would be too cold. But the sun was nice and warm and of course kids will go in the water, regardless of the water temp - so they had a blast!
We saw a bunch of dolphins and we also saw a seal.

The water was soooo clear - and we had the beach pretty much all to ourselves!

Merry Christmas - December 2009

Merry Christmas!! The kids so excited for Christmas morning - of course. Here's a shot, just before they walked into the living room: Ben was sooo excited to see that Santa brought him a big wheel!! He was so cute and kept saying, "this is the best Christmas EVER." He was so happy and fun - it was adorable.

Summer, on the other hand, was just recovering from the flu and was definitely tired. She wanted to tear into all the gifts and would cry if she couldn't open ALL of them. After a couple of time outs she seemed to calm down a little. Whew!

Thankfully Ben was so sweet to her and patient. And he was just so excited that you couldn't help but be happy and smile around him!

It was such a nice morning to hang out and spend time together.

Once Ben opened this present, he was done opening any more until later in the morning. He was sooo excited to get this pirate ship. Thanks Mormor!! You totally made his Christmas!!

Christmas Day - December 2009

Summer finally sat still long enough for a cute smile.
My mom started a tradition when I was little, to take a picture of us in front of all of our gifts, so we could look back and remember what we liked at a certain age. So in case Ben forgets, when he was five, he loved pirate ships, trains and big wheels!

Summer liked all of her gifts and has been having a great time playing with her new dollhouse. She was excited to get pretty pony stuff too because she really loves animals.
After a big breakfast we headed to the beach to hang out for a while. It was chilly, so the kids were content just playing in the sand.

And later in the day the kids rode their bikes and of course Ben had to try out his big wheel. Summer thought it was fabulous to stand on the back. They were so cute together!! This year, I had a mellow day, just hanging out with the family, rather than making a huge Christmas dinner. Instead, we had appetizers and snacked through out the day. It worked really well for us this year.

Gingerbread House - December 2009

Our annual tradition of decorating a gingerbread went as well as to be expected with to "sugar-holics." Not much candy on the house so far...hmmm...wonder where it's going?

Ben is happy with the end results. Summer is fiesty because I told her (for the 100th time) that the candy goes on the house - not in your mouth. I finally had to throw away the frosting because Ben seriously couldn't control himself. Too funny! They were very entertaining and we all had a good time. I wonder where they got their sugar cravings from...hmmmm....

Christmas Time at Knott's Berry Farm - Dec. 2009

For the last couple of years we have made a trip to Knott's Berry Farm, right before Christmas. It's a great time to go because it's not very crowded, especially a few days before Christmas. Plus, my mom and dad usually get a bunch of free tickets! Each year, as much family as possible try to go. This year was great because Carol, Emily & her family, my mom and dad and Michael and Ashli all showed up!!

Here's a picture of Parker and Ben right when we walked into the park:
Camp Snoopy is PERFECT for the little kids. Emily and I spent most of the day there with the kids. Mom joined us to help out. Carol spent some time with us too before heading off on the big rides with Dad, Michael, Ashli and Russ.
Look how cute all 4 kids are! The are trying so hard to move those little cars around. The boys caught up with the girls and helped push them along. It was cute.

My little Summer was brave enough to go on the log ride with Aunt Carol!! I think she was pretty scared at several points....but overall she had a great time!

Knott's Berry Farm

The kids were so cute together. Ben, Parker and Hannah were so excited to go see Santa. Here they are, waiting their turn: This poor Santa asked Ben what he wanted for christmas and Ben got up really close to his face and was trying to whisper in his ear that he wanted a train....but the Santa didn't turn his ear toward Ben, so instead he got a nice whiff of Ben's stinky hot breathe...hilarious. Notice Summer missing - again, not so much a fan of Santa.
Group shot on the train ride:

Snack break for everyone - Summer and Ben love these rainbow fruit roll ups.

More on Knott's Berry Farm

Group shot of all of us - the kids were all troopers and were in good spirits the whole day!We rode on the stage coach ride and Summer was so excited to see the horses. But we sat in the back so she never saw them! She kept saying, "where are the horses?"

Aunt Carol gave this pig to Summer, which Summer promptly named "pinky" and had to take with her to Knotts.

We stayed until the park closed and then had dinner at the Chicken House!

Santa at S. Coast Plaza

The kids were sooo excited to see Santa. And Summer said, "this time I won't be afraid" and she was super excited to get her candy cane. Well, once we got there she wanted NOTHING to do with Santa. Soooooo.....here's a nice picture of Ben with Santa: They are smiling and being super cute because I'm holding a bag of Sees candy with the promise that they could have some if they let me take a few good pictures of them!
South Coast Plaza only puts this little train up during Christmas so the kids love it!
